Explore the Olympic National Forest, State lands, and parks all in the nearby our park. From easy half mile hikes to see a variety of rivers, to multi-day treks into the mountains, we have it all.

Fishing North of Ayock typically opens in mid-July for Coho Salmon and Pink Salmon during odd yeras. Hatchery Chinook may be retained South of Ayock Point. Additional opportunities exist South of Ayock Point, as the two-pole endorsement is allowed, and there is a lower size limit on Chinook (20 inches) during the summer. Winter resident salmon fishing is a unique opportunity to catch salmon in the 'off-season' and typically runs from October through November. Marine Area 12 boasts some of the best Coastal Cutthroat Trout fishing throughout the Puget Sound region, both by boat or from shore.

2021 Season/Open Days and Times: Was open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 19, May 22, June 2, June 5, and June 16. No additional dates for 2021.

Marine Area 12 (Hood Canal North of Ayock Rock): July 1 through September 6. Thursday through Monday each week. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are closed.

Check with local regulations about licensing and limits before collecting. Hood canal offers a bounty of shellfish to harvest in our clean waters. Claiming can be a quick afternoon activity during low tide at Dabob Bay.

World famous oysters are farmed in a natural habitat of Puget Sound. Drive south to trident cove to collect your own after reviewing harvest rules and fishing licensing. Prepared oysters can be had at the Hama Hama farm restaurant heading south on HWY 101.

Come out for a late walk when the wild berries are in season. Berries like Thimbleberries, Huckleberry, Salmon berries and more are not typically available commercially as they don't travel well and are require specialized processing. A must do activity for any fruit enthusiasts.

Grab your field guide and waterbottle. Half of the fun is finding your own path off the beaten trail to your own foraging honey hole. The Olympic National Forest hosts and offers some of the most diverse culinary mushrooms in the world.

Check in with our caretaker for some of the best waterfall recommendations. Rocky brook falls offers a very short walk to spectacular falls,recommended for just about everyone.

Don't forget the camera! Up all along US highway 101 a sizable herd of elk go where they please. If you're lucky during your visit, you can catch them sunbathing in the field next to the park.

Binoculars are a must, Check into the Geoduck, our local watering hole with hearty warm chowder and spectacular views that include Bald Eagles, hummingbirds, seal, and the local elk herd.
